Dauntsey's celebrates equestrian success
Dauntsey’s Equestrian Team are celebrating the end of a busy and successful year, which came to a close with three teams competing at the National Schools’ Eventers Challenge Championships at Hickstead.
Qualifying for this competition is an achievement in itself and requires a great deal of training and determination – not to mention steady nerves on the day. Teams of four have to demonstrate their ability by jumping a course of showjumps, followed immediately by some cross country style fences, ditches, steps and water complexes, as well as completing the course in an optimum time with penalties for being to fast or too quick.
This year, Dauntsey’s saw girls from First Form (Year 7) through to Lower Sixth (Year 12) competing in three teams of heights – 70cm, 80cm and 90cm classes – and all successfully qualifying for the nationals. In the competition itself, the 70cm team finished in 4th place, which was an incredible result.
Riding at Dauntsey’s continues to go from strength-to-strength and there is a great deal to look forward to in the year ahead.
Lucie McNichol, Head of Riding says:
“It has been an exciting year for riding at Dauntsey’s and it has been fantastic to see the team making the most of all of the opportunities and challenges that have been put in front of them. Our riding team at Dauntsey’s has always been inclusive of all ages and abilities and the commitment and dedication from our talented pupils this year could not be a better example of that. We are very excited to see what next year will bring for the group, both as individuals and in their teams.”
