When Henry VI founded King’s College, he decreed that there should be 16 choristers to sing at services in his chapel. Fast-forward to today and the choir at this central Cambridge co-ed is famous the world over. Most children learn two or three instruments, the school owns 25 pianos and, unsurprisingly, everyone is encouraged to sing, even if only in the occasional assembly.  Music aside, there is a full programme of sports – from swimming in the on-site open-air heated pool (there’s also a floodlit Astroturf) to national-level orienteering.
