Radley College hosts European Transplant & Dialysis Games
Radley College has partnered with Transplant Sport and Blenheim Palace to host the European Transplant and Dialysis Games 2022.
Organised by Transplant Sport, over 500 transplant recipients and dialysis patients from 26 European countries competed in events across Oxford. Radley College acted as the Athlete’s Village and hosted the athletics, football, badminton, darts, archery, tennis, table tennis and squash competitions. The 5km run and cycling races took place in the grounds of Blenheim Palace.
Andrew Ashton, Bursar of Radley College, said: “We have been delighted to support the European Transplant and Dialysis Games. Transplant Sport is an inspirational organisation and Radley has been proud to partner with them on this event. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the competition this week and I’m so pleased that our staff have been volunteering as marshals and scorers. A true community effort!”
Dr Paul Harden, Chair of Transplant Sport, commented: “It has been an incredibly tough couple of years for transplant recipients and dialysis patients in particular and many have experienced fear and isolation due to having to shield. We have loved staging the European Transplant and Dialysis Games in Oxford and uniting our special community. We are so grateful to the generosity of Radley College who provided a Games athletes village and excellent sports facilities for so many of the events.”
The European Transplant and Dialysis Games were founded in 2000. This competition is the largest European event so far, and the first to take place in the UK.
