Sixth Form musician wins city competition
Wolverhampton Grammar School Sixth Form student, Catherine, won the vocal category of the Wolverhampton City Rotary Young Musicians Competition.
Congratulations to Wolverhampton Grammar School Lower Sixth student, Catherine who won the Vocal category of the Wolverhampton City Rotary Young Musicians Competition.
The event took place on Sunday 5th February at the Wolverhampton Music School. Thirteen of Wolverhampton’s most talented young musicians were selected to perform on a variety of instruments from Drum Kit to French Horn. Catherine was joined by fellow WGS students: flautist Charlotte (Year 10), and violinists Jasamar (Year 10) and Sophie (Year 11) who also delivered splendid performances.
WGS Director of Music, Melanie Cuthbert commented:
“We are so proud of our young musicians, to be selected to perform at this standard is an exceptional achievement. This is the first time we have entered this competition; the quality of music-making was really high. We wish Catherine the best of luck in the regional final in March.”
WGS is home to an impressive Music department, located at the heart of campus with specialist facilities including a Recital Hall, Mac Suite and nine instrumental practice rooms. Both Junior and Senior School students receive timetabled Music lessons, which can be complemented with individual instrumental tuition, and over 20 extra and co-curricular Music clubs and activities led by our incredibly talented and passionate Music teachers and VMTs.
Music plays an important role in the lives of many WGS students, with over 200 receiving individual instrumental tuition. Musicians are also given the opportunity to take their talent overseas; last year, senior musicians participated in a music tour to Jersey.
