Tom Murray WINS 2023 BSA 'Stephen Winkley Award'!
Port Regis is thrilled to announce that boarding House
Parent Tom Murray has won at the 2023 Boarding Schools’
Association awards.
Without Tom knowing, Port Regis nominated him for the BSA’s ‘Stephen Winkley Award’, given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to boarding life. As a finalist, Tom attended the BSA awards’ dinner, in Bristol, and received his award (pictured right).
Tom became a Port Regis House Parent in 2006. Since then, he has modelled almost super-human amounts of patience, kindness, commitment and care. From egg drops and treasure hunts, making hot chocolate and reading stories, to den building and campfire songs, Tom has done it all.
Some lovely quotes from our junior boarders: ‘Mr Murray always understands.’ ‘If you have a problem, Mr Murray will always sort it out.’ ‘He is truly amazing!’
And from a Port Regis parent: ‘Tom Murray is one of those very special house parents, who puts any child at ease, will listen to them, make them laugh, cheer them up and make them realise everything is ok and manageable.’
“He is a great example of a committed, passionate, caring front-line member of the boarding community who puts the children he looks after first, every day of the week. He is a credit to the sector and a role model for those who want to know and understand what being a boarding professional really means.”
