Outstanding GCSEs for Chetham鈥檚 School of Music
Following in the footsteps of a successful A-Level results day, Chetham鈥檚 School of Music has announced its year 11s have achieved an outstanding set of GCSEs, performing higher than the national average:
- 93% pass rate (national average is 67.4%)
- Over half of all grades are 9 - 7 (national average is 21.7%)
- 20% of students scored grades 9 - 7 in all subjects
- A third of all grades are 8 or 9
- 12 students from Year 10 sat GCSE Music a year early, scoring grades 9 - 7, and over half scored the maximum grade 9
Students have also given back to the community by performing in care homes, other schools, and public spaces; collaborated with world-class professional musicians; represented Chetham’s overseas, including in China (see photo below); written their own compositions; won competitions; and visited and taken to the stage at iconic music venues including The Bridgewater Hall.
Joint Principal, Nicola Smith said: ‘Congratulations to this year’s GCSE students who have achieved the highest standards in a full range of subjects, in addition to developing superb musicianship. Nearly all of them have chosen to join our sixth form and continue their educational journey with Chetham’s, making the most of the opportunities we bring to them. Congratulations to our teachers and support staff too, who provide the best care and teaching, making Chetham’s the most magical place to be.
“This has been a great year for us with students also performing brilliantly in their A-Levels, and we received an excellent school inspection report in which students were applauded for being kind and considerate. I’m very proud of them.”
