King鈥檚 Prep School Children Make a Splash with 100km Charity Swim
Pupils at King鈥檚 St Alban鈥檚 Prep School showed incredible teamwork and resilience last week by tackling a 100km swim to raise money for the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).
The inspiring challenge, which took place over four days, starting bright and early on Monday in the ‘Early Morning Swim Group’ saw children aged 4 to 11 dive into action. As part of the school’s celebration of the newly reopened swimming pool, each child was set a personal target by the school, contributing to the collective 100km goal.
Headmaster, Nick Hawker, reflected on the success of the event, saying:
'The buzz of teamwork and determination was truly inspiring. Each year group, from Reception to Year 6, took their turn in the pool, and so many children went above and beyond their individual targets with some children even swimming a staggering 100 lengths of the pool. We couldn’t be prouder of our pupils who came together to smash the 100km r goal, swimming a staggering 151,000 meters, some 6,038 lengths of our pool. It’s a fantastic achievement for such a worthy cause.'
The children raised over £2,900, for RLSS UK, a charity dedicated to preventing drowning and promoting water safety. RLSS UK’s vital work includes initiatives like the Water Smart Schools Award, which equips schools with resources to teach essential water safety skills.
A spokesperson for RLSS UK expressed their gratitude, stating: '

Every donation makes a significant difference, from funding water safety campaigns to training the next generation of lifeguards. This remarkable event not only celebrated the reopening of King’s St Alban’s pool but also brought the school community together to make a real difference.
