Wells Cathedral Chorister wins Choir Schools' Association Chorister Composer 2024
Wells Cathedral School is delighted to share that Zino (Year 9) is the Choir Schools’ Association (CSA) Chorister Composer of 2024, having won the up to 14 age category of the Composition Competition in memory of Sir David Willcocks.
The CSA Chorister Composition Competition is a prestigious annual contest that invites young composers at choir schools and choristers from across the UK to create original musical compositions. There have been many distinguished adjudicators over the decades, including Sir David Willcocks himself. This year’s entries were judged by Jonathan and Charlie Willcocks.
Zino’s winning composition is a setting of Psalm 111:1-2, ‘I will give thanks unto the Lord’, for SATB choir and organ. He wrote the piece in a quick two-week burst in October and sent it off to the CSA in the autumn half Term break. His success has seen him receive a prize of £100!
Mr Laing, Director of Music, commented: “It is fantastic to get this recognition so early in his compositional career.”
