St. Helen鈥檚 College Junior Travel Ambassadors Meet The Mayor of Hillingdon
St. Helen's College Junior Travel Ambassadors attend a special STARS (School Travel and Road Safety) workshop at Hillingdon Borough Council to support sustainable and safe travel to school.
This week four of St. Helen’s College Year 5 Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTAs) attended a special STARS (School Travel and Road Safety) workshop at Hillingdon Civic Centre in preparation for their Dragon's Den style funding pitch to Hillingdon Borough Council in March. The children were trained in valuable sales and pitching skills and were lucky enough to meet the Mayor, Cllr. Colleen Sullivan, in her parlour.
During the workshop the pupils participated in activities to analyse postcode data and the results of a recent parent survey which highlighted the travel issues facing local families. The children also had the opportunity to visit the council chamber where important meetings take place to learn more about the democratic process.
Last year the St. Helen’s College JTA team successfully secured £550 via this initiative, supported by Transport for London, to use for a bike workshop to support green and safe travel to school. The children are looking forward to putting their new skills to the test at the Dragon's Den pitch to local councillors in March to pitch for funding once again in order to put their travel solution ideas into practice.
