Giggleswick Runners Shine at National Cross-country Championships

Two talented young athletes from Giggleswick School delivered outstanding performances at the National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill, London, on Saturday, 22nd February.

Following strong performances in the earlier rounds in Liverpool and Leeds, Mia and Jack represented the school on the national stage. Mia, a consistent winner this season, including victories at The Rawthey Run and The Catteral Shield, entered the race in top form. Jack, a GB and England athlete over the last 18 months, also aimed for a strong finish in a highly competitive field.

Navigating the challenging course with confidence, Mia powered through to take 1st place, finishing with a commanding lead and cementing her position as one of the top young cross-country runners in the country. Jack also impressed, finishing 7th out of 200 runners, showcasing his resilience and determination against the nation’s best.


Their achievements reflect the strength of Giggleswick School’s running programme, which continues to nurture and develop young athletes. This year has already seen further success, including:

• 8 pupils qualifying for the English Schools Championships – the highest numberin school history
• 10 pupils qualifying for the North Yorkshire Championships
• 6th place finish out of 42 teams at the King Henry VIII Relays
• 5 Prep School pupils qualifying for the North Yorkshire Cross Country Finals, hosted at Giggleswick
• U13 Girls – Winners at the Catteral Shield, Rawthey Run, Stonyhurst Invitational,and Sedbergh Prep Invitational
• U13 Boys – Winners at the Catteral Shield
• Junior Girls – 2nd place qualification for the ESAA Cross Country Cup
• Jack – 1st place at the English Fell Running Championships, held at Giggleswick
• Mia – 3rd place at the English Fell Running Championships, also held at Giggleswick

These results highlight the school’s commitment to fostering excellence in athletics and ensuring its runners compete at the highest levels.
