Oratory Prep School Choristers Shine on Tour to Tuscany
The talented Choristers of The Oratory Prep School have returned from an unforgettable tour of Tuscany where they performed in some of Italy鈥檚 most breathtaking venues.
The tour saw the young singers showcase their talents in historic churches across the region, including the Basilica di San Paolino in Lucca, Chiesa di San Salvatore in Ognissanti in Florence and Collegiata Sant’Andrea in Empoli. Bringing their music to appreciative audiences in spectacular settings was something the children will never forget.
Beyond the concerts, the group had the chance to experience Italy’s rich culture. Their itinerary included a visit to Pisa, where they climbed the iconic Leaning Tower, and Florence, where they explored the Uffizi Gallery and enjoyed the city's stunning Renaissance architecture. Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without sampling authentic pizza and gelato—both of which were thoroughly enjoyed!
Despite encountering some dramatic Tuscan thunderstorms, the Choristers’ enthusiasm never wavered and their final performance in Empoli was a fitting end to a remarkable trip.
Headmaster and Chorister Leader, Mr Andrew De Silva, commented: “This tour was an incredible opportunity for our Choristers. Not only to perform in such inspiring venues but also to bond as a group and create lifelong memories. I am so proud of their professionalism, dedication and the joy they brought to every performance.”
Pre-COVID, the school used to take regular trips to Italy for the choristers to perform - this is the first of such trips since the pandemic and will be a regular feature in the coming years for pupils in Years 5 to 8. The 2025 Choristers' Tour to Tuscany is testament to the school's commitment to musical excellence. As they settle back into school life, the echoes of their voices in Italy’s historic churches will remain a cherished memory for all who took part.
