Bronze medal for Taunton School pupils at national cross-country championships
A group of pupils from Taunton Prep School have received a bronze medal after competing at the ESAA Cross Country Cup Final in Leeds, with one pupil, George, finishing 4th in the whole country.
The rest of the U13 boys’ team delivered outstanding individual performances, with JJ securing 12th place, Lewis 32nd, James 60th, William 104th, and Maxime 114th out of 180 competitors. Their combined efforts earned the team an impressive third-place overall finish.
The ESAA Cross Country is a prestigious event which requires students to qualify through county and regional stages. The pupils faced stiff competition in the finals, with just 20 seconds separating 60th place from 17th place.
Shaun Winsor, Director of Sport at Taunton Prep School, said: “This is an amazing achievement for the team of six runners. Their incredible performance is a direct result of sustained effort and training over many months, and they should all feel immensely proud of their success.
“Qualifying for the finals by placing in the top two at the county level and winning the regional event was a fantastic achievement, but earning a medal against the nation’s top teams is truly exceptional.”
During the same week, Taunton Prep School U11 Girls were runners up at the National Prep Schools Cross-Country Finals against more than 150 other pupils. The team of four was accompanied by a further three teams of four pupils from the School, further accentuating its school-wide talents in this field.
Further, the U11 Girls team had fantastic results as individuals, with Erin finishing 5th, Olivia finishing 6th, Meredith finishing 61st and India finishing 71st.
