Taunton School achieves exceptional results in national and regional music competitions

Taunton School has seen its students achieve a range of fantastic results across a variety of recent music competitions and events.

Students from Years 2 to 13 took part in the recent Taunton Festival of the Arts 2025, walking away with dozens of trophies across a range of categories, including Pop Vocals, Solo Piano, Solo Woodwind, Duet Performance, and Classical Vocal, plus two top choir prizes.

On top of this, Taunton School’s senior students have had a prolific spring term:

  • Year 13 Clarinet, Horn & Piano Trio recently reached the final of the Pro Corda National Chamber Music Festival for Schools
  • Four students achieved gold, silver and bronze medals for their talents on piano at the Bristol Festival of Music
  • Year 11 student, Tim, was runner-up at the Rotary Young Musician District Final
  • Taunton Young Musician Competition saw Year 10 student Matilda awarded second prize in violin and Year 11 Freya awarded third prize in piano.
Toby Carden, Director of Music at Taunton School, said: “It has been fantastic to see the outstanding success of these Taunton School musicians in so many settings - a real testament to their remarkable dedication in producing such characterful performances.

“We are delighted to celebrate all of these achievements in solo playing, chamber music and large ensemble music-making.”

Despite being busy with external events, Taunton School recently put on a fantastic display of talent in its termly music concert. The Spring Concert acted as a celebration of the breadth of talent amongst the student body, featuring choirs, bands and orchestras who performed a wide range of music in the School Chapel to a full audience. This followed the recent Magic of the Musicals production which showcased the exceptional singing abilities of the School’s students.

Music is a central part of Taunton School’s community and performing arts provision which boasts an extensive programme of more than 100 performances throughout the school year.

Tuition begins at Taunton Pre-Prep School to help instill a love for music at an early age and develop skills and talents that pupils will carry with them throughout their Taunton School journey.

Matthew Cook, Deputy Head Co-Curricular, said: “I am exceptionally proud of our students’ individual and collective achievements in such an impressive range of musical pursuits.

“Their substantial commitment and dedication to these endeavours have been recognised by these wonderful achievements. These accolades serve as an inspiration to our wider musical community who contribute outstandingly to the identity of the school.”
