Blast Off! ACS Cobham students awarded Engineering Award for satellite launch
Seven high school students from ACS International School Cobham have been awarded the prestigious Silver Industrial Cadets Award by the Engineering Development Trust
This is in recognition of their impressive participation in the STEM CanSat Challenge, hosted by the European Space Agency, ESERO UK.
The challenge tasked students with designing, building and launching their own model of a real satellite, within the volume and shape of a soft drink can, testing their skills in engineering, coding, electronics, data analysis, teamwork and more.
Representing ACS Cobham, students Oliver, Alan, Leo, Anhad, Xenia, Sean and Mason, worked hard in their team to develop a fully-functioning satellite, before launching it successfully at the Regional UK Launch event.
Dr. Karolina Hammer, STEM Programme Coordinator (Senior School), at ACS Cobham, said: '
I am beyond proud of our CanSat team for their hard work throughout this challenge. These opportunities provide our students with such invaluable, practical experience and presents them with the chance to develop advanced industry skills. From initial concept to launch, the team demonstrated admirable innovation, creativity and collaboration and should be extremely proud of their achievement. I have no doubt they have extremely bright futures ahead of them.'
