King鈥檚 Worcester Marks Mental Health Awareness Week
The King鈥檚 School, Worcester, Foundation has marked Mental Health Awareness Week with a series of activities for pupils and staff.
A number of special assemblies focusing on mental health has taken place, while screens have highlighted the importance of the King’s community for wellbeing, connection and sense of belonging. Elsewhere, displays in the Senior School library have reminded staff and pupils about the wide range of mental health resources provided by the School, as well as by external organisations.
Staff have also had the opportunity to take part in a series of activities including yoga, mindfulness, and walks along the river.
Wellbeing is a priority at King’s, not just during Mental Health Awareness Week, and the Foundation was praised in its recent ISI inspection for the level of support provided, stating that: “Leaders…provide comprehensive and timely support for pupils. Pastoral leaders create a supportive environment where students feel valued, safe and empowered to succeed.”
King’s Senior School recently unveiled the ‘Bright Room’ - an area designed to provide a safe space for pupils throughout the day, as well as offering mindfulness sessions for pupils.
A dedicated Pupil Welfare Co-Ordinator, Foundation Mental Health Lead, and Wellbeing Governor have recently been appointed to ensure mental health and wellbeing remain at the centre of its educational provision, both on a day-to-day basis for pupils and in a strategic way for the school.
At King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford, ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ sessions provide a dedicated time for pupils to focus on their mental health through various activities and discussions; children recently created “What Makes You Great” badges for each other, to celebrate everyone's unique strengths.
King’s Hawford has also launched the ‘Hawford is MAGIC’ initiative, a programme designed to foster positive mental health and wellbeing among the students, staff and wider community, which runs alongside their pupil-led wellbeing committee.
In 2023, King’s St Alban’s was awarded the Wellbeing Award for Schools, with an advisor commenting the School’s Wellbeing strategy, ‘Making KSA Smile’, was one best Wellbeing Strategies they had seen their six years of being an advisor.
Acting Head, Dr Alison Oliver, said: “The happiness and wellbeing of our pupils are at the heart of our provision at King’s Worcester. We are proud to create a caring community that focuses on mutual respect, openness and warmth, and allows our pupils to thrive.“
Our fantastic members of staff are committed to offering help, support, and guidance to every member of our community, with pastoral care woven into all that we do.”
