Canfordians secure nearly 600 offers to top universities

Huge congratulations to our amazing Upper Sixth Form Canfordians on their inspiring futures success with nearly 600 offers to top universities!

This year’s application process for university and higher education choices is now complete, and once again those Canfordians choosing further study have excelled. We send huge congratulations to the 146 Canfordians who are currently holding 595 offers for over 200 different courses to leading universities at home and abroad. This represents 4 offers per pupil, with 85% of all offers to Russell Group/Sunday Times Top 12 institutions.

Among the most popular destinations for applications this year are top Russell Group institutions including Bristol, Cardiff, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Loughborough, Newcastle and UCL.

An additional ‘well done’ goes to those who have successfully applied to institutions involving a more complex and rigorous application and interview process. Fourteen Canfordians have received offers to Oxford and Cambridge, and for places on highly competitive courses to read Medicine or Veterinary Science. Two pupils have secured highly prized apprenticeships and four are heading to study in the US.

This illustrates the breadth of talents and interests which makes Canford such a rich and dynamic learning environment.

Mike Doherty, Head of Careers, commented:

'Such impressive outcomes from the competitive university application process result from a lot of hard work and dedication, and all Canfordians involved should be very proud of what they have achieved. While the vast majority of our pupils currently choose the university route, there are pupils who are also considering apprenticeships, gap years and going straight into the world of work. Our new Sixth Form College Futures Centre which opened in March this year is an exciting development in our Careers programme to provide further support for every pupil, whatever career path they are considering. We want to make sure that every individual Sixth Former is aware of all the opportunities open to them beyond school and that they leave Canford equipped with the learning and life skills to given them as many career options as possible to explore during their working lives.'
