Finborough School Celebrates Duke of Edinburgh Award Success
Finborough students visit Buckingham Palace to celebrate achieving Gold Award in Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
The Finborough community is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students participating in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award scheme recently. This nationally recognised programme encourages young people to develop essential life skills through volunteering, physical activity, skill-building, and adventurous expeditions.
A highlight of this year’s success saw five Finborough students honoured at Buckingham Palace recently for completing their Gold Award, the highest level of the DofE scheme which has been completed in an unusually fast space of time. The students were invited to the royal gardens as part of a special celebration, recognising their dedication, resilience, and commitment to personal development. The event was attended by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and other distinguished guests, making it a truly memorable occasion for the students.
Meanwhile, the next generation of DofE participants at Finborough is already making strides. Year 9 students have recently embarked on their journey towards the Bronze Award, completing a challenging 35km practice expedition over two days. The expedition tested their navigation, teamwork, and endurance as they trekked through the Suffolk countryside, preparing them for their qualifying expedition later this year. What’s more, students working towards their Silver Awards are preparing for a trip to Wales as well as a practice expedition of canoeing on the River Great Ouse in June. This helps to get them ready for canoeing on the Norfolk Broads in September to further test their abilities.
Finborough’s DofE Award Lead, Mrs. Nic Foss commented, '
We are incredibly proud of all our students involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The programme plays a vital role in shaping confident, capable, and compassionate young people. From those just starting their Bronze Award to our Gold Award recipients at Buckingham Palace, each student has shown remarkable determination and spirit.'
