Spotlight Shines on Aysgarth School: Celebrating Spectacular Success in Drama Achievements

Aysgarth pupils once again dazzle on the LAMDA stage, achieving a 100% pass rate with all 84 exam entries awarded either a merit or a distinction. LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) exams are all about celebrating confidence, creativity and performance. Pupils who take part develop brilliant skills in acting, communication and self-expression. These respected awards recognise their hard work and growing talent — and offer a real boost to their confidence, both on stage and beyond.

Aysgarth School is celebrating an extraordinary set of results in this year’s LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) examinations. A total of 72 pupils from Year 1 to Year 8 took 84 exams – a substantial increase from 25 entries the previous year. Impressively, every pupil passed with either a merit or distinction, with 64 distinctions awarded in total.

This year marks the successful expansion of Aysgarth’s LAMDA programme, now reaching pupils from Year 1. Every Year 1 to Year 3 entrant achieved a distinction, and all group performances were also recognised with distinctions.

These results underscore Aysgarth’s commitment to nurturing expressive, articulate, and confident young performers. The LAMDA curriculum not only cultivates technical skill in acting, but also fosters self-confidence, public speaking ability, and creativity — qualities essential for success both on and off the stage.

Head of Drama, Jon Bentham, commented:

'As an educator, the LAMDA programme brings immense joy. It equips our pupils with invaluable life skills — confidence, articulation, and the ability to express themselves clearly. Whether they pursue drama further or not, these are tools for life.'

He added:

'We actively encourage as many pupils as possible to take part in LAMDA. It’s not just about performing; it’s about developing the confidence to articulate your own thoughts and the poise to deliver them clearly. By practising the delivery of others’ words, pupils also learn empathy, interpretation, and how to express differing perspectives with conviction.'
