The event brought together the school community, local families, businesses and charities for a day focused on inspiring positive change and empowering the next generation of environmental stewards.
Leanne Hughes, Sustainability Lead at Holme Grange School and the driving force behind SustainFest, said,
'SustainFest was indeed bigger, better and greener than last year. We had an amazing range of companies, charities and volunteers working with us for the day and into the evening. Our in-house rock bands from all ages rocked the solar powered stage.'
She added,
'We were delighted to welcome both the Wokingham and Town Mayors. There was a real community spirit and so much positive feedback.'
The Stage Box, powered by solar panels, was a festival highlight and hosted a special performance of an original song performed by Year 5 pupils, as well as sets from the school’s rock bands, including the Prep ISA winners, Holme Grunge.
Throughout the day, food was served using reusable school crockery and cutlery. Year 9 pupils made bunting in-house as part of a project on batch production and quality control, using fabric sourced from local charity shops. Reusable napkins were made to reduce paper waste.
Visitors enjoyed hands-on workshops, an upcycled fashion show and practical sessions on biodiversity, sustainable design and repair skills. Companies and organisations supporting the day included Thomas Franks, Balfour Beatty, Little Muddy Boots and Team Repair. Science, STEM and food tech activities, along with vibrant student performances, showcased sustainability in action. After the event, all waste was weighed to set a benchmark for future years.
SustainFest 2025 at Holme Grange School brought sustainability, creativity and community together, inspiring everyone to make positive changes and empowering young environmental stewards.
