Hurst’s U13, U14, U16 and U18 boys, alongside the U18 girls, competed at the renowned Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s, taking on strong opposition in highly competitive groups.
The U13 boys delivered a series of impressive performances, facing international opposition from Dubai and Kenya. They secured several victories and pushed every opponent right to the final whistle, demonstrating skill, bravery and teamwork. Their displays highlighted a very promising future for this group in the sevens format.
The U14s were drawn in a mixed group, recording two convincing wins against slightly weaker opposition before progressing to a play-off match against Scottish school George Watson’s. Despite a strong performance, they narrowly lost after a highly competitive and hard-fought game.
The U16 cohort enjoyed a successful group stage, winning all three of their matches to finish top, including notable victories over RGS Worcester and Abingdon. However, they were unable to progress beyond the always demanding day-one elimination round, losing to Fidelis School despite a determined performance.
The U18 boys faced a particularly tough group. After a strong opening win against Finborough, they were narrowly defeated in their next two matches, conceding a last-play conversion against Woodhouse Grove and a single decisive try against Warwick. They eventually exited the competition following a hard-fought match against Seaford, having competed with resilience and intensity throughout.
The U18 girls were outstanding across the tournament, especially considering that some members of the squad had only taken up rugby earlier in the year. They played four competitive matches, battling with determination and confidence and scoring tries in every game, an excellent reflection of their rapid development and team spirit.
Across all age groups, the teams displayed exceptional Hurst spirit, characterised by commitment, resilience and togetherness. The week concluded with the U18 boys competing at the Sedbergh 10s, where they faced exceptionally challenging conditions. Despite this, they showed great positivity and resilience, approaching day two with energy and determination.
Overall, it was a demanding but ultimately successful week, marked by growth, character and a superb collective effort from all players and staff involved.
